San Antonio Eye Doctor Names the Most Common Eye Conditions

We see many different types of eye problems in our office, but some are more common than others. According to our San Antonio eye doctor, some of the ones we see the most often are:

  • Computer eye: is a syndrome that can cause a range of symptoms from scratchy eyes to blurry vision.
  • Amblyopia or lazy eye: is most often seen in children, amblyopia is caused by one eye developing more slowly than its partner, causing one eye to be weaker than the other when it tries to focus on objects.
  • Cataracts: is the most common cause of blindness worldwide. As cataracts develop, it can cause vision to look yellowed or cloudy, as if looking through a thick fog.
  • Glaucoma: is mainly caused by increased pressure of the fluid inside the eye. In earlier stages, there are no symptoms. Once the vision has been affected, surgery may be necessary.

Treatment Options for Serious Eye Problems

For the most serious eye conditions such as advanced cataracts or glaucoma, surgery is the treatment option of choice. Our doctor can diagnose these conditions during a routine eye examination, and will advise waiting until the disease progresses further. Once your eye problems develop far enough to affect your daily lifestyle, our ophthalmologist can treat these problems with surgical procedures.
