Eye Exams

The Importance of an Annual Eye Exam

People generally remember the importance of receiving a physical exam at least once a year. However, annual eye exams often get missed and patients will let their eyesight go unchecked until conditions turn into serious issues. After the age of 40, it is important to stay on top of your eye care, since vision rapidly deteriorates past that age. At Vision 3C Specialists in San Antonio, we help our patients preserve their vision with annual eye exams.

Keeping Your Vision in Check with an Ophthalmologist

Our vision test uses both a standard wall chart and other tools to properly determine if prescription lenses are needed and how strong they need to be. Eye functioning tests aim to reveal how accurately your eyes recognize things like depth, color, and whether or not they are responding to light properly. It also takes a look at things like peripheral (side) vision, eye muscle strength, and whether your eyes are moving together properly. Eye pressure is also tested and can help to diagnose eye diseases like glaucoma and macular degeneration early on.

The diagnostic power of an eye exam does not end with problems with eye and vision health. It can also lend clues to potential problems with a person's general health that can lead to a further investigation with their primary care provider. Our eye doctor regularly diagnoses diabetes and can also identify autoimmune diseases, blood pressure issues, and even cancer.

Early Detection of Dangerous Eye Diseases

Many diseases that can compromise vision loss often do not show any early symptoms. This includes macular degeneration and cataracts. The longer a condition is left untreated, the harder it is to alleviate symptoms. Our experienced staff can identify potential problems that can rob you of your vision and healthy eyes.

We Can Help with Vision Correction and More

Eye care does not end with getting a diagnosis or status update on a chronic condition. We will then work with you to make a prescription that treats your specific vision issue. You will be able to see clearly again with the help of glasses, contacts, or Lasik eye surgery. We offer a wide range of vision correction treatments at our office.
